Ideas needed for day/overnight hike in eastern PA or south Jersey

I'm looking for someplace for our scout troops (one boy troop, one girl troop, total of about 40 scouts) to go in April. The catch is that about half of our scouts want to backpack, but the rest just want a day hike. Ideally, I'd prefer a loop trail which could be shortened. Like, everyone starts together but at some point, those that just want the day hike take a different/shorter trail back to the cars while the rest keep going and camp, then hike out the next morning.

I was thinking of Pinchot state forest, but I've heard that's pretty waterlogged in the spring. We're based in Hatboro, PA (about 5 miles north of Philadelphia) and open to traveling up to about 2 hours. It looks like Wharton state forest has a pretty extensive trail network, but I'm having trouble finding a decent map of the area.

I was just looking at Wharton myself for our scout troop. I haven’t been down there in a long time since I am in central NJ so I might take a trip down there next weekend to take a look around. Looks like a lot of the trails are out and back but your right, from what I see there seems to be a lot of trails to choose from and sites look to be available year round. Since a lot of our scouts are hammockers, I want to see what the sites are like.

    Here are maps:

Your best bet will probably be the Mullica River trail and campsite. Day hikers can start at Batsto Village, then hike to Constable Bridge and back. That's about a 4 mile day hike. There are signs every half-mile telling you your progress towards Atsion (9.5 miles) so it's pretty easy to know how far you've gone and when you want to turn back.

The overnight crew can continue on to Mullica River campsite (again, a 4-mile hike). In the morning they can hike out.
