Phantom first, Bob second, Mama Bulla winner of women’s division.

Bob (Joyride) has placed first once and second twice in last three contests. Amazing as that is—he has done this with three separate homemade stoves of his own creation.

Mama Bulla (Kris) had a remarkable showing in her first ever “Purdy Boil” contest, especially with windy conditions. That wind was vicious.

    What I used
Sterno Inferno stove and mug combo
The mug has built in heat exchangers in bottom.

    Evernew titanium alcohol stove
Sitting in a peanut butter jar lid, as a homemade priming lid.

Evernew stove takes a while to prime or bloom. The alcohol in priming lid adds to stoves heat and makes bloom happen faster. To get up to speed, so to speak

All sitting on top of an empty tuna can that was turned upside down. This was to get Evernew stove up close to heat exchangers on bottom of mug.

The Evernew stove Knockoff, does not burn as fast and hot as the real thing.

Alcohol fuel of choice Heet in yellow bottle.

I learned of Sterno Inferno amazing fast boils from cmoulder—Bob in New York. Thanks Bob!

Another great Yates! Sorry I couldn't stick around on Saturday for the Purdy Boil and BBQ. It was great seeing old friends again and making some new ones.

Sorry I missed Friday night but I did get to hang with the Savages on Saturday (p.s. cold is just a relative state of mind…). Thank you Phantom for organizing and Taz for the most excellent breakfast on Sunday. I enjoyed all the story telling around the fire, especially the Navy Squids and SteelPlayer’s unending well of yarns.

We ducked out on saturday because our kids and their kids were totally unprepared for cold weather. Therefore we decided to all go home. We had a great time as we always do. Thanks everyone who made this special.

This may totally change Yates life as we know it. If this passes let’s adopt a standard so it is clearly defined as a weekend to plan on.

We could do something every year like the 1st weekend in April and the 1st weekend in November (unless it's Easter Sunday weekend and then it can be moved to the next weekend). Example for the upcoming years:

2023: weekend of April 1st & weekend of November 4th
2024: weekend of April 6th & weekend of November 2nd
2025: weekend of April 5th & weekend of November 8th (November 1st weekend is too close to Halloween)

Just a suggestion fellow Yates hangers!

Thank y’all for brainstorming Yates scheduling
If there is no Time Change Weekend, we would still have Yates.

We can take an idea from those wise Gorge Rats and have Ten Day Hangs, encompassing two consecutive weekends. This would help hammock campers who have work obligations, doctor appointments, weddings and other important events.
Also if one weekend had lots of rain or freezing weather, maybe the other weekend would have Happy Face weather.
Maybe two consecutive weekends in mid March and two consecutive weekends in mid October.

Great care would have to be taken to not coincide with other established hangs.

With two weekends, one weekend could be designated as major, with more organization of food and events.
And the weekend designated as minor could be a more low key, retro hang.

Just thinking out loud. Sometimes ideas are best left as ideas, if more problems are made than solved. I look forward to you sharing your thoughts.

    You Are Yates…We Are Yates
