    Eyelet tool and eyelets recommendation?

I'm looking for a good-quality tool and good quality metal eyelets.
I've used cheap 'sewing store' eyelets with a 'tap with hammer' setter before and wasn't happy with the results - the metal tended to split and the eyelets tore out.

This would be mostly for clothing, but there are plenty of spots I'd use an eyelet for a drawstring if I could trust the result.

(Not worried about the weight increase with metal eyelets.... )

Something like these in a Helly jacket:

    Thanks.

    Thanks.
I should have stated clearly that I'm interested in hearing about tools and eyelets that people here have used, and whether they think the quality is good or bad.

I've read the amazon comments on a lot of the eyelets and tools there, and the same negative aspects - splitting eyelets, eyelets tearing out - come up again and again.

Would a button hole be an acceptable alternative to an eyelet, for your application?
    Regardless, Good Luck

    Thanks, Phantom.
In the past, I've found that button holes are good for just that - holes for buttons. If there's a line sliding through the buttonhole, the thread doesn't last long - in my experience.

Perhaps with a newer computerized sewing machine, better quality round buttonholes are possible? I'm not going to do buttonholes by hand - the sands of time are running out!!

I use grommets from C S Osbourne. The standard tool is still hit with a hammer but the set up is better than the standard craft store type grommet. They do make a press but it is pretty expensive, weighs 25lb and must be bolted to a bench.

i'd invest in at least a harbor freight arbor press instead of the hammer. constant pressure vs concussive.. and its a handy tool - once you have one you'll find other uses for it.

    $65.00: https://www.harborfreight.com/1-ton-...ress-3552.html
