Hmmmm. Rasher rhymes with Dasher, who is currently in my freezer as sausage. Sorry Santa. Get another one for next year's sleigh ride.
If I make the winter thing, there will be Dasher served for breakfast

Tested my gear in the backyard last night. Got down to 21*, no wind. I could tell I was getting close to my limits. Anyone else checking their gear out in prep for this coming hang?

Yup. Temp outside was 12° F. this morning, but I was hanging in the sun room with the outside door open, where it was only 25°. I'm working my way down, and will be sleeping outside before the hang. Insulated hammock with supplementary UQ is probably good to zero. I expect to double my top quilts when I go outside. Meanwhile, I'm sewing myself some down pants. This year I'll use a smaller tarp, so I may have less wind protection. My goal, as always, is not merely survival, but comfort. Last night (like preceding nights) was good.

We are 0 and 10 (with 4oz overstuff so call it zero for the lady). I think we are good. Not tested real cold but snuggly at higher temps. HG burrow and incubator for both of us.

We are going to test in the yard this weekend. It is supposed to be pretty cold here. At least in the thirties. Just bought a hot tent, No stove but we have a buddy heater.
Im at in Zion ATM. Wish I had my gear with me. On New Years Day it was -2. That would have been fun. So far the lowest I’ve been able to take my gear down to is 10 at the Capitol Chili Butt hang. Winds were high so not sure of the wind chill number.

Thought I'd be able to make it but work has other plans. Some day I'll get back. Here's hoping you all have cold and snow up there.

"I fish because I love to; because I love the environs where trout are found, which are invariably beautiful... because, in a world where most men seem to spend their lives doing things they hate, my fishing is at once an endless source of delight and an act of small rebellion; because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed or impressed by power, but respond only to quietude and humility and endless patience...." --Robert Traver
My memory is on break, does Grayson close a gate at night? Or can we drive in and out, after hours?
Grayson Highlands hours 800 am until 1000 pm
Not sure if that applies, during winter.

We can double check but I'm pretty sure they do not close the gate.
I too will something make and joy in it's making
