    Thank you for sharing that one! I don't know if I struggle with splicing and burying, but tying the button knot has frustrated me enough that I haven't learned how to tie it properly. Has anyone found a good instructional video on how to tie one with 7/64' amsteel?

    TAC Blades has a soft shackle tutorial with a very similar button knot as this done with 7/64 amsteel.

    I’ve made quite a few of them and use them on hammock chairs and a few other things. They work quite well.

    Jeff Meyers has a button knot tutorial that’s pretty good on YouTube if you haven’t found it yet.

    I've tried to follow that one only to end up with a mess and frustration. Certain styles work for me (like TAC Blades) and although I love Jeff's products, that video (or rather, my inability to follow it) only frustrated me.

    hey Iceman, i know how you feel, the button knot can be difficult at first.

    the instructions at the beginning of this video were the best i have found and i found them most helpful for the button knot, when i first learned it (yeah, it's the same channel as the link in the original post)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91_jEjQdlBU

    hope it helps.

    i use various alternatives to the button knot, as a stopper, these days, for shackles, but none of them are equivalent, so i still like the brion toss botton knot; besides, it's a bit of a piece of history, too, so worth learning it, if you care.

    that's nice, but it's not the button knot used for softshackles, and afaik nobody uses that one for a softshackle (would be rather weak i'm afraid). nice for a lanyard though, i guess

    Iceman857 - I've just gone and found the Tac Blades video "Improved Soft Shackle" this has an overhand knot instead of the usual button knot.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0eZz36PRYI

    I spent ages looking and went straight to this one and bypassed the normal button knots - so can't say if its any easier or not. I'm just getting started on splicing, so everything is new to me, but I managed this after a couple of watches, then lots of "Play/Pause"

    Good luck

    @Nigelprs - "Improved Soft Shackle" -

    More folks doing video's on "How To <insert knot here>" would benefit from this perspective.

    The usual 'button knot' is a diamond knot... It's not that difficult if you're patient and practice a few times. It's known in the sailing and arborist worlds as a solid toggle knot for amsteel.
