Here is an easy modification to a taut line hitch using dyneema.
Use three wraps inside your initial loop, and three wraps on outside.
Finish off with a slip knot in the standing end loop, which is shown on the right hand side of the image.
After desired tension is achieved by adjusting the loop, cinch down the slip knot around the standing loop to add friction, pull as tight as possible. It will not slip (however I would not hang my hammock with this hitch).
If I had only one knot for all time, it would begin with a taut line hitch, for tarps, tent stake downs, bear bags, tripods, and the list goes on and on.
Modifications continue to delight even after learning the original in 1958.
Three mouse-clicks will enlarge the image for closer inspection.
