Question What do I do with all this rope?

I have been doing some upgrades to my collection of low-end hammocks. I just learned to make continuous loops, soft-shackles, and whoopie-slings with amsteel and am upgrading the end loops and suspensions. I'm about to start playing with dynaglide too (for structural ridgelines, tarp continuous ridgelines, and guylines, I think). As a byproduct I now have lots of pieces of the old (heavier) rope from the end loops. I also expect to upgrade the soft small line used for ridge and guy lines from my sons' Hennessy Cub's tarps.

What is something interesting I could do/make with these? What do we even call them?
I guess the end loops are some kind of kernmantle?
The ridge lines are some hollow round, and the guy lines are some hollow flat...

Off the top of my head:

I would start by using a few of them for prussik loops to hang things from the ridgelines and pack straps.

Beyond that, you may want to look into paracord projects. I realize that these are not paracord, but some of them may work for things like water bottle holders, key fobs, and such.

The fiber artist in me would suggest a much less practical but much more artistic option: create a woven wall hanging from them. Use a tent or trekking pole as the hanger and weave the pieces Saori style. When it is done, attach pins, buttons, or other little souvenirs to remind you of all the great places you have visited.

(And now you know why I chose the name “Eclectic.” Haha!)

Sell it to pay for hammock-obsessive counseling sessions? I know I could use some therapy.

    Thanks for the ideas!

I have been using them to practice knots (and teach others!). They are way easier to learn with than Amsteel, etc...

I would LOVE to make soft-shackles with them, but they aren't hollow core... can you make soft-shackles with a kernmantle rope?!

I DID use one that came from the Hennessy as a line to hang clothes-hangers in my car. A bowline in one end, and the existing prussik+hook on the other end makes an easy-on/off clothes line!

This video shows how to make a soft shackle with about any kind of line.

If the line is too thin the knot he uses may not be big enough. I have had good luck using a two strand Ashley Stopper knot, or an Oysterman's stopper knot.
