    Hammock camping spots in KS?

Recently moved to KS from Illinois, and soon I'll be making my more permanent move to Topeka.

I was wondering where the best places to hang were within, say, an hour's drive.

    Thanks in advance, yall.

Well KS isn't going to be replete with options, but you're on the East side of the state, and there are more trees there than on the West side. I can't speak to campgrounds or state parks, but I have backpacked on the Elk River Trail a couple times, and it is definitely hammockable (and one of the best trails in KS).

If you are just looking to hang out or explore in the Topeka area, there are trails at the Governor's Mansion https://www.visittopeka.com/listing/...ors-mansion/3/ and I think also at the Museum of History https://www.kshs.org/museum. Maybe you'll find something useful there.

I haven't lived in KS in over 15 years, and I was a small child when I lived in Topeka, but I enjoyed those areas. Sorry I'm not a better resource, but it doesn't look like you're getting much other help here, so these ideas should be better than nothing!

Now if you want to venture a little farther out, 5 hours from Topeka will get you to the Buffalo River and the rest of the Arkansas Ozarks, and you'll never run out of gorgeous options here.

I would totally second that! I'm now a Missourian (former Kansan--born and raised in Kansas) and still drop down to the Arkansas Ozarks to do most of my hiking...so gorgeous down there!!!

A 5 hour drive from my home in Lansing, KS will get you to the Buffalo River Trail or Ozark Highland Trail.

Although BRT has bluffs & views new hikers will be wowed by, I believe OHT has the better trail experience. Arkansas has some wonderful trails.

Hope your move to Topeka will be a rewarding one.
