Have a question about cold weather hiking.
Is it necessary to place all of electronic gear (headlamps included) in a warm location for battery preservation? How about the cannister fuel?
The video is really good. Thanks for sharing.

I generally store all my electronics in the hammock with me (I forgot to take the drone batteries out of my backpack and they definitely lost some of their juice during the night). Once it gets into the low 20s the GoPro battery life goes down noticeably if I keep it out in the cold for a while. I left the cannister on the ground and it worked fine in the morning but if the forecast calls for lower than 20 degrees I'll probably just bring my white gas whisperlite instead of the cannister stove. But people have said they will just keep the cannister stove in a jacket/sleeping bag to use during those lower temps.

Indeed, gotta keep batteries warm. With devices like smartphones and cameras, it also helps to keep them inside a ziploc bag because body moisture can really foul up the electronics and the optics.
For winter canister use (well below 0°F), some years back I came up with a simple solution for cold weather operation. This has been used successfully by many people. So for me it is not necessary to keep the canister warm.

In colder temps, I keep my electronics & batteries in the breast pocket of my synth pullover or down sweater to keep everything warmed up. Same for fuel... I stash a 1 oz bottle of alcohol in a baggie stored in my pocket for my morning cup of joe.
Thank you. Fabulous video. Some great clear weather you had. Much snow out there now!
Since I retired, some times I stay awake all day, some times all night.
Thanks much!
Thanks, the weather was certainly clear. It was so bright it made the drone footage difficult as much of it was washed out. That was but a taste of the snow they get up there. It's wild to think that in the heart of winter you're walking 4-5 feet above the ground!
Excellent video THANKS for sharing!!
Great video Rhody Seth! I haven’t been to the Whites in a long time. Made me homesick for New England. Great trip!
