I am new and trying to learn

I am new to HF. I live in Utah and have been camping and backpacking with the hammocks for about 6 months now. I mostly do over night trips. I don't do much car camping or site camping. I am curious two things:
    1) Are there any hiking destinations that people suggest for an overnight stay in central or northern Utah?
    2) I have heard of these hammockforum hang events from Shug where groups get together and curious if those happen in Utah? I am just trying to meet some people with similar interests.

Sorry, I am way new and just looking for direction.

Welcome. I'm new too. Don't know much about Utah but someone on here should be able to steer you right.

This will show group hangs in your area
If there are no group hangs near your location

Then you can initiate your own new group hang
What is that quote from a baseball movie?
    Paraphrasing
“If you build it, they will come”

There is a certain format for posting group hangs
But maybe no particular format for having an impromptu group camp
All you need is a small group to have a big time

    Good luck

Hi Travis, I'm new around here as well and also out West. I haven't been as lucky to find many group hangs listed on here. It seems like out East is where all the action is. I was almost tempted to fly out to Florida in January for Hang Con, but I'm not sure I can make it happen. Would be nice to meet everyone though.
Hiking my own hike and hanging my own hang. This is where my happy is!

DPT_Travis, welcome, I live in Utah too. There are a lot of places for overnight stays. The National Forest lands are typically good, and there are always the well established places like Uintahs, the Cottonwood canyons (Big/Little). Logan Canyon is spectacular if you want something more Northern. Sometimes I will just go someone near home and get up into the foothills or something.

Group hangs here in the West have been pretty minimal. There have been some in Arizona, and maybe California (not sure). I can't think of any here in Utah. There is a growing number of folks on here from Utah though, so maybe it's time!

EDIT: I think there are a couple/few others on here that are right in your area of Saratoga Springs (Eagle Mountain, Bluffdale).

Welcome! I bet if you invited the Utah people on here to gather, they would. It doesn't have to be fancy and involved. The first group hang I went to was just a bunch of guys sitting around a campfire, with hammocks hung in the woods surrounding it. Everyone brought their own food, maybe a treat to share, and they compared their stove/cooking sets as well as their hammocks.

Simply set a date and location, see who shows.
