I'm wondering if any of the early Hammock Forums members are still here?

I think I was 20 or 30 something person to join after HF came on line and hammockers started moving here from White Blaze. That was in 2006. March I think.

Believe it or not, I was able to read every post on every thread for a while. But as membership continued to grow it became impossible.

As far as I know AT Troll is the owner of Hammock Forums still.
Just Jeff was the on line face in charge in the early years.
I was the first person that Jeff asked to help moderate.
As the military took Jeff over seas and the membership grew, I asked Jeff if he would ad more moderators.
    And he did.

I stepped away from moderation after several years.

I find that you can only go back so far to see threads and posts from the earlier years.
    I wish we could.

Anyone here that was active in the first 5 years or so?

I can remember the crazy ideas starting to form experimenting with underquilts. Ed Speer was definitely one of the pioneers. He influenced me alot! I still have his original "Hammock Camping" book.

I lurked for a while before I finally joined in either late 2011 or early 2012. I lost my original account after going silent in 2015, but I can remember that time period really being exciting for hammock camping innovation. Our DIY section was amazing. I built a hammock stand with 2x4 tripods and a steel pole hung with zing it in the center I believe. All based on plans shared and later modified based on community feedback. It was cool to see so much happening all in real time back then.

Ed Speer. Wow, that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time! I’ve got his book somewhere around here also.

I remember meeting you Crawdaddy at one of Ed Speer's Hot Spring Hangs.
SEHA. South East Hammock Association if I believe.

As I remember it the main backpacking hammock gear makers back then were Speer Hammocks, Jacks R Better and Hennessy.
    And there was Eno also.
I remember the first time any of us met Brandon of War bonnet Hammocks. It was at Trail Days.

New ideas were being shared freely on HF. I think that slowed down some as some started making and selling other people's ideas if I'm not mistaken.

It was an exciting time in history

If anyone were interested they could go to my profile and gallery and see a few of the ideas I posted pictures of.
    Each photo is dated.

There are pictures of the first Winter Hammock Tarp, created by Young Blood, made sold through Speer Hammocks.

I joined hammock forums in 2009. Its been alot of fun, and I have learned soooo much over the years! What Im amazed at is all the people who have turned their hobby into large thriving businesses! I especially appreciate that despite the growing numbers of people on the forum, its still a safe, family friendly place to share ideas! The forum has gotten bigger, the hammocks have gotten more complex, but its still a wonderful place to hang out !

FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.
