Another one of our double "no-tree" hangs using basic supplies, one Solo pole, one wooden closet rod, and 4 sections of camo-net spreader poles (2 each).
The suspension is a set of UCRs on both ends of mine and cam straps on the other.
Ground Stakes are 18" rebar. For the S.Arizona desert soil getting a light weight stake into the ground, and having it survive, is a major challenge. Because of that I often pack rebar stakes when we're "car camping". This was the first time I was in an area where a couple of the stakes went into soft patches and didn't want to hold, so I backed them up w/ some old military aluminum V-stakes.

LowTech, that's an awesome setup. I like your use of the various poles and such. I'm on a waiting list at our local surplus store for some of the camo-net poles, they sell them as quickly as they get them in.

    Love camping in the desert.

One tree. This is a Kelty tarp pole. With more experience I learned to keep the pole lower, making it stronger, and placing it about 12 or 18" from the end of the hammock. Just far enough to provide good tarp coverage.
The simplest tie out I've found is a good bush or large rock.

    Is that a 790/890?
Is it wrapped around the rear wheel? Hard to tell from the picture. Almost looks like to a spoke. Does the bike move?

I'll have to give this a try. I'll be doing the TAT on my 890 this summer.

    Cheers

It's the 790. In the pic, I tied off to the front and rear wheel. That gives the pole good stability by pulling slightly to both sides. With that set up the bike has only moved once. I was parked in grass near a river and when I got in the hammock the front wheel started sliding toward me. I put a tent stake in the ground next to the tire and put a string around the front brake and it was fine after that.
The TAT sounds great. I've done the CDT. It took about four trips to finish it. I'd like to do it again in one trip, probably 3 weeks.

Love it. I'll probably bring my tensa solo pole, and have been thinking about whether I needed to think about different anchor than the orange screws I have. Sounds like your wheels are the anchors. Nothing else? That lightens the load/bulk a touch too.

This is a very strong selling point to me, more site options and the ability to shift with the wind when desired (I can break the wind like a horse already).
