She wore the typical Merrel ventilator boots and did great.

Since I forgot my proper trail running shoes, I wore the "everyday" shoes I drove down in which are New Balance MT410. I think I got them at Kohl's for $50. Definitely nothing special.

Thanks Shug! The trip, date, drive, everything couldn't have gone any better! One of those trips you wish you could replicate all over again. We enjoyed every minute!

I forgot to mention I almost stepped on a snake while messing around with my phone! Right on the trail soaking up the sun. I don't know anything about snakes; this one was black with tan/orangish patches (not perfect lines or stripes).

p.s. Sorry about the crazy long report. I didn't notice until looking at it again for myself!

That's one heckuva venue for a third date!

Clearly you timed the trip perfectly.

Sounds like you had a great time and the weather and river cooperated. The first time that I did the loop it was a one-nighter because weather was moving in and I wanted to go ahead and cross the river, but couldn't find an empty site coming up Spence so I just made my way back to the truck at Spence Ridge TH. I remember letting loose "Is That All Ya Got" as I tried to stop the burning in my legs and fight off the impending cramps coming as I tried to drive out Table Rock Rd. It is a great experience. Rewarding enough in the views to make it all worth it. Let me know when you want to come back down and we can do the Grand Loop.

I didn't get a good photo since it started moving away. But here's a closeup that may help identify it.

Timber Rattlesnake / Canebrake. They can also be dark gray / black in the mountains here.

Dang!! Glad I wasn't too buried in my phone. That will be the end of me some day...hiking while checking a map or something else.

    Great report.

There are many out of the way, and hard to find, places to see in the gorge.

    Glad you enjoyed the loop
