    dryad suspended sleeping shelter

Hey everyone. I had a couple questions about a dryad sleeping shelter.

How would you attach this to trees? Just run a piece of webbing through all three loops and then tie bowlines onto the carabiners and then how would you attach the carabiners to trees? That center loop doesn't seem structural so I don't know how important it is to have webbing go through it or not. The only loops with cord to hold up the cot are the end loops. You can see in photo two below that the center loop with carabiner is just dangling in the air.

Also, what the heck is this thing?!?!?!?!?! What is it used for?

I believe that these suspended "beds" are from a company named Terre Logic and the product name is Dryad Tent Hammock

    Here is an image

Here is the drawing, it looks like there is a canopy sewn into the overhead.
    dryad-tent-hammock-200-americanlisted_36173589.jpg

Your unidentified image is probably a barrier to store things inside the shelter (see your diagram image on the right side, as there is a darker triangle which looks to be a barrier for storage)

To suspend between two trees, a split-ridgeline suspensions could be used (one for each end to tie-out and suspend between trees).

Almost looks as if the "Bed" is a modified cot configuration, with the apex of the fabric triangle hanging from the ridgeline, and the base of the triangle on the bed and it may be used as a compartment to separate sleeping quarters from storage.

The above images come from a "For Sale" Dryad in Tyler, Texas

    DRYAD Specs. from Terre Logic.com.
    Measurements: 82 x 34 x 48".
    Things Sack: 23 x 8 x 8".
Weight: 6.5 pounds Colors: Charcoal Gray (rain fly), Navy Blue (base.

     Nylon Slings urethane.
     4mm nylon suspension cord.
     No-see-um mesh.
     Anodized aluminum tubes.
     Nylon strap (beneath rain-fly).
     420 Denier waterproof nylon.
 70 Denier taffeta waterproof rain-fly (seam sealed).
 Fastex buckles to protect the rain-fly.
 Toggles for holding up the rain-fly.

This hammock-tent is more like a suspended bed than a hammock. Keep in mind the position of the individual.
oversleeping the above picture. No serious arch to the back. While pricey, and a little heavy, this may.
be (sleep-wise) the very best buy around for back-packers backs.

    Found in Tyler Texas.

How high up the tree do you have to hang the suspension?

Late to the conversation, for future reference I'll give a quick review.
I bought one direct from Terre Logic. I used it for two solid years on military deployments from Alaska, Vietnam, Laos, the PI, and Australia. It can be suspended in variety of ways as I did in hotel rooms, tents, jungles, etc. It is a very comfortable and wide bed. The aluminum frame can be adjusted to be like a tight mattress or a softer "mattress" feel. If they were still making them I would buy without hesitation.

The center and end loops were for an optional single point suspension frame.
The mystery fabric panel was a very clever reclined seat back. It was a 2 ounce recliner for the backcountry. Dryad was easy to hang. Most any anchor points would work. Head end should be higher. The suspension bridge build made this not tippy and any swaying stops in seconds.

Thank you so much for all the info here. I really appreciate it. The split ridgeline makes sense!

So you just lean back on the triangle when you want to recline? When you sleep do you just shimmy it up out of the way? I didn't see any snaps or anything on it to remove it compeltely. I would think it would get in the way when I wanted to sleep.

The seat back is pushed up the suspension cords and the friction of the bunched fabric holds it out of the way.
