    ViDEO: Haven XL Looky-See

Recently received the Haven Tent (hammock) XL. Haven XL or Regular?....https://haventents.com/blogs/haven-j...en-or-haven-xl
This hammock for sure has a place in my hammock armada. If I am on a trip and think there is a chance I will need to go to ground, this is the hammock I would tote along.
One thing I do to lighten the Haven and make it suit my style is to use one of my own tarps for more room. Add Whoopie Sling/Tree Strap suspension. Haven has a whoopie sling suspension available now.
Get rid of the heavy biners that come with it. Use dutch clips or lightweight biners.
    Specs:
    Length: 80 inches / 203 cm
    Width: 30 inches / 76 cm
    Packed Size: 16x8x5.5 inches

Kit Total Weight with Insulated Pad: 7 lb 10.5 oz / 3473 g
Kit Total Weight with No Pad: 4 lb 14.6 oz / 2228 g

    Standard Rainfly Weight: 0.84 lb / 380 g

So yes....for sure heavier than taking a gathered end hammock and UQ...BUT...the ability to pitch it for ground easily is its strength. And the flay lay. Good for side sleeping. Easy in and out.

I like it. It feel it has it's place.

it seems like an almost ideal canoe camping option

weight is less of an issue (unless you have a ton of portage) and you can pick whatever little island you like, ideal trees, or no

my wife doesn't like how much work it is to get in and out of the draumr, but she's been eye balling the haven since you've featured it a couple times now

    Yessir.
I did not mind toting it at all. Made it a bit lighter with a different tarp for more room and whoopies and tree straps and dutch biners. That helps.

Really even at 4 almost 5 pounds thats right at the same weight a tent like the REI HalfDome would be at. Most mainstream non UL tents are right around that weight, granted for a "2" person tent. Not bad at all!

I was surprised to see how roomy it was in the video. Didnt expect to see that much vertical room. If you knew you'd be in for a rainy wet trip and would be spending a lot of time at camp it would certainly be a great hammock to bring along.

I agree on those thoughts on weights and tents plus pad.
Was on Angleworm Trail this weekend with 2 other guys. I was a tag-along. Rarely do I do weekends as I can go weekdays....read less crowded. Assumed I may need to go to ground and I think the Haven is the easiest to do a ground pitch with and it has the pad.

I have not tried it on the Tensa. Feel it may hang to low but maybe I'll set it up.
    Need a chore distraction issue.

MUCH better width. Now they need to work on weight. I've got some ideas.

However, doesn't quite compare to a 90 degree Hammocktent 90 gamma (or OTD DIY 90 degree) with OTD mods coming in at 23 oz., plus UQ of your choice, plus tarp of your choice, and just as flat and wide a lay.

How does the setup of this - particularly the strap angles and heights - compare to your typical 11' GE hammock? Assuming the same tree to tree distance (14-15'), would the straps need to be higher (due to the height of the Haven) on the trees? Thinking of his this would work in a turtle dog type stand.

Yes, It is on the heavier side. I make it lighter by using a different tarp I own and different suspension and lighter biners. Once in the pack it is easy enough to tote.
But I brought it as I thought I may have to go to ground so the other guys I camped with could hang. (in video below) That is its strength. And true it is different from a 90º hammock.
At least it is something different.
Not for everyone but I like having it as an option.

Pretty much the same but of course all depends on tree spacing and ground slope.
It may work on TD stand.
