    Hi, from Southeast TN

New to hammock camping, but not new to backpacking. I have an old back injury from an ATV accident and ground dwelling is rough after a hard day of hiking so I decided to give this a try. I am awaiting an 11ft hammock I ordered from Myerstech and still trying to make a decision on a tarp. I'm a little OCD with choosing gear that I'll be carrying on backpacking trips and coming from a tent setup with a baseweight of around 13lbs I would like to stay in the sub 16lb area. Looking at tarps with doors also for privacy. I have a topquilt from Cedar Ridge Outdoors and plan to make my own underquilt out of a spare topquilt I have already. I'm sure I will have many questions as I make this transition.

I see that you use a cuben tarp. How do you like it? How long have you had it and often do you use it? I'm stuck between going with a xenon sil 1.1 from Dutch or a HG or Dutch DCF. Whatever I get will prob have doors so I can use it 4 seasons. I think the sil will probably be more forgiving for a newbie, but it is double the weight. I like the HG palace, but it takes up a lot of pack realty so if DCF I'll prob go with a HG Standard with doors.

Welcome to the group! Glad to hear you are not sitting sidelined and getting out there to enjoy creation. I like your ideal of turning a top quilt to an under quilt. What part of TN are you from? I got family near Pigeon Forge. I am going for an overnighter at GSM this week. It will only be 5 or 6 miles in and out, but should be pretty and renew my spirt. Anyway, good to have you here and if you do an under quilt from a top, you should post a write up on it. I am sure people will love to see what you did so they can try too.
