    Amok Pads vs Exped

I know some of the Amok pads are relatively new, such as the winterlght. Does anybody have both brands, have an idea on comparison? Anybody been using the new Amok pads enough to have any thoughts on durability? Problems with the Expeds? If you were to use either pad in a tent or go to ground scenario, would that change your choice? I’m leaning towards just getting the Amok pad with a Dramur UL purchase (looks like their pads are quality for a good price), just looking for some experienced input before I commit yet another hammock related buyers remorse offense

I've got an exped synmat 9.

I've seen the fjol, it's very heavily influenced by exped imo

exped was designed as a tent matt, so going to ground is non issue.

I suspect fjol would be just fine as well.

I don’t know if it was a bad batch or manufacturing period but there are a lot of reviews of exped mats which complain about failing valves. I’m sure you can get the mat replaced if you end up with one but as the draumr relies on the pad so much for structure, I would be hesitant to get one unless the price difference is a major factor.

I’m using a pad I already had (without vertical baffles) until the big Agnes air core comes back into stock on their site.

Thanks for the feedback, I went with Amok’s ultralight pad (R-3.5/19 F). I left it inflated for a few days and used it on the ground and in the hammock, did it have any issues. Used it in some cold and windy/rainy weather (mid 30s), felt warm.

I can't speak about a comparison, but I have the Exped XP7 that I use in a DIY cross bridge I'm trying to work out, and it's warm enough you'd almost think it has an actual heat source. It has some heat-reflective lining that - to me at least - works pretty well. Definitely a 4-season pad and the baffle design makes it structurally sound for 90º hammocks.

I've also had to use it for going to ground, and granted I hate ground dwelling but it acquitted itself well in that scenario too.

I've had durability issues with the Amok FJol inflatable pad. The pad was purchased in 2018 and only used in the Amok. The valve leaked after only light use. I reluctantly ordered a replacement (almost half the cost of a new hammock). I suspect the chair mode is not good for the pad's lifespan. If the new pad fails again, I'll be shopping for a different brand hammock.
