I picked up a WB Yeti last year, and have taken it on several backpacking trips. The Yeti is just a bit too small for me. My calves and feet were cold, and I couldn't get my sit pad to stay in place. I was also frequently pulling the Yeti back up over my left shoulder throughout the night. It's just too much fussing and fiddling. I've never had any comfort or fiddling issues with the Thermarest. Once you set it under the double layer, it stays put, even when changing sleeping positions or getting out and back in the hammock in the middle of the night. Set and forget. I've also realized that the pad provides some rigidity and structure, not much, but enough to make it more comfortable than simply sagging down into the hammock fabric. One thing is certain – the most comfortable nights I've spent in my hammock were on a pad, not a UQ. The condensation and awkwardness of something hanging off the pack are acceptable prices for the comfort.

That being said, I've never slept with a full UQ, but as I mentioned, I do prefer the structure the pad offers.
After using 2/3 and 3/4 length UQs for several years, I kind of agree to a point. I used them successfully for years to save on weight and volume penalties. Did I stay warm? Yes. Did my legs get cold occasionally? Yes.

I've since moved to Full Comfort Hammock UL. My Bonefire Whisper30, has full length asym insulation coverage rated @30 degrees. It is decidedly warmer than any of my 20 degree UQ configurations. No leaks. No gaps. No cold spots. Only been down to 26 running a 40 degree TQ, but it's still has a little way yet to go. Haven't had to deploy and UQP yet. Sheltowee build weight Wt 1.9lb

    That's not bad for hammock+UQ.

But is anybody making these now? Sheltowee website indicates everything "Unavailable" .....

I don't know. The Bonefire Whisper was never listed on the site as it was a custom build. Bonefire Gear is also out of business, but I was able to get Jeremey to build my Raven and one of his suspensions.

I'd try contacting Alex Gates and/or Jeremy directly if interested. All three above mentioned items are well worth an e-mail. Being custom builds a nice conversation or two will probably be necessary.

I'm happy to help as best as I can. I still own and run Bonefire Gear but I closed down the website to minimize orders so that I can focus on my family. While I can't make the original Whisper any longer, Alex has those rights, I do make other gear (including an insulated bridge) and can help point you toward other great venders. Shoot me a PM if you want.
