    Hello from Indiana

Hello everyone hope everyone is doing good. My name is Gayle I'm new to this forum as well new to hammocking. I just bought my first hammock couple months ago($20 from Rural King) a bug net from Wal-Mart, and a DD 3X3 tarp just slept under it last night for the first time. I enjoy everything with the outdoors besides spiders, survival, prepping. planning on making some things my self just because like a tarp, hammock, bug netting, underquilt I see there is a lot of good info on the forum and I'm happy to be here!!

Gayle, glad you’re here. Greetings from Carolina country—home of red mud and a diverse group of hammock campers.
Maybe you can go to a local hang this fall—a good chance to see lots of different gear all in one weekend. And meet some cool hammock creatures!

To see Group Hangs near you

    Maybe watch Shug’s YouTube videos
How to hang a hammock, how to pitch your tarp
How to insulation pads or underquilt and topquilt
It’s a ten or more part series of short informative entertaining videos

While not everyone agrees, I recommend a gathered end hammock a least 11x5 or even 11xwide. That width could be five and a half feet up to 6 feet wide

If you can make some of your own gear—I’m in awe. I get my gear from our cottage vendors also listed in Forums

    Welcome, Gayle!
There are great threads about DIY gear and youtube has some videos. I agree with Phantom that Group Hangs are worth going to. You'll meet nice people and see gear and modifications.
    Have fun-
