best webbing buckles

Years ago I tried at least one type buckle (I think it was the cinch buckle) and once under weight, it could be a real pain to get the webbing loose.

What kind of buckles for webbing are working hassle free today?

Also, the types of webbings that work with them.

Been using Dutch's beetle buckles with the spider poly 1" straps. Pretty easy to adjust, even after you load it.

I personally don't use hardware anymore on my hammock setups. But if I did, I'd probably go with the Breeze Buckles from Autumn Ultralight.

Standard 1" cinch buckles, and I prefer the polyester straps that Warbonnet sells.

First, I don't want to get into a debate about whether to use hardware on the suspension. The OP specifically asked about buckles. What I don't like about the "basic" cinch buckle is that it is something that was originally designed to be used with webbing on both ends and has been adapted for hammock suspension by wrapping cordage (typically amsteel) around the "fixed" end. Inexpensive but prone to becoming misaligned. There are so many options that, IMHO, are so much better, although some of them may not be right for certain types of webbing. Dutch offers several options. Then there's the Breeze Buckles mentioned above. Add to that the buckles offered by Brandon at WB, Multi-Buckles from RBTR, the Superior Suspension System, Elephant Trunks, Strap Anchors (BIAS), etc.

Lots of great buckle options out there.

I’ve used both the standard cinch buckle and the beetle buckle. Both worked well, but rehire you to mind your strap. Neither worked well with thinner straps as they tend to slip or bunch. So, with a buckle, I’d go with at least a medium weight strap for reliable operation - the 1500 pound rated ones or even 3000.

Both the straps I mentioned above I eventually abandoned since I found they caused abrasion wear on either the strap or the continuous loop. It’s not like they were in danger of failure, but I don’t like unnecessary wear and went with another mechanism.

I like the design of the beetle buckle type cinch and would go that route again if I wanted to use buckles. Several folks make that style now as mentioned above. It’s great because the strap and buckle stay together and it takes seconds to both readjust the length of either end or attach/detach the hammock.

They are a great option, probably the easiest to use solution overall.

I do a double larkshead instead of a continuous wrapping that most vendors do.

Never had an issue with it becoming misaligned.

Seems like a far better practice. But I'm also now reminded how much I don't like having to thread the straps every time if you don't want to pack them with the hammock.

I really like this material (and their buckles). It's more of a dull/rough type compared to all the other webbing I've tried (soft and shiny). I feel like it locks in buckles better and stretches less (almost none).
