i think yachties run it through fancy rigging i don't know the names of, which makes distributing the load between core and sheath more gradual, and slippage less likely. on the other hand, surprisingly what "everybody uses" or what a certain group uses predominantly is not always the best solution, and it wouldn't be the first time it would happen with sailing i think (although we owe them a lot of our knowledge about knots and ropes, nobody's infallible, not even them )

seems you're having all the fun

for beyond-deadly-risk hangs, as you describe, i would require 10x minimum safety factor, and redundancy provided by a climbing harness attached separately from the hammock suspension (so if anything in the hammock system fails, or you spill out of the hammock in your sleep, you remain hanging by the harness), i know it sounds overkill, but i think it's worth it. i've been planning to do some tree hammock camping (canopy), but it still hasn't happened. oh well, maybe next year (or life)

Blocks, tackles, cleats, grinders, thimbles, and quite a few more-they like thier jargon.

If you are truly looking for high tree hanging look up "treefool" on youtube.

We have a shug, they have a treefool(but shug is funnier and way more authorative.

I have a harness for the high hangs.
Kinda messes with the sleeping bag a bit but it does have paired zips so the harnes can pop through the zip.

My tq is a different matter though.
