Also worth pointing out for those looking to re-create the video- A ball is not 3/4npt thread. You can see hers looks to be loose towards the end of the video.

Will it work, probably. could the pipe fitting crack and send you and your hammock to the ground- on top of metal parts? probably.

It would be something to test out for strength before committing, you know, like Elon did with that steel ball )

Thats a fair point. An alternative might be to thread the 45s on with some thread tape until you could line everything up just right, then drill a hole through those joints and pin them in place with a grade 8 bolt of some kind. No welding, and I assume everyone has or can borrow a hand drill. But, I can't speak to what that might do to the strength.

On the subject of strength; the threads decrease the wall thickness (strength) of the pipe as well.

    Not for me. Nope, nope.

And, as has been mentioned, the threads on the fittings are 3/4" NPT (tapered), while the threads on the hitch ball are something else. This is a train wreck.

One subtle feature of Adventure Hammock Systems setup is the support bars are angled out - away from the back of the vehicle.

That gives you clearance from the back area - see the tire on the back hatch in the link posted by bva111.

There seems to be more engineering than meets the eye because you need a certain span, you need clearance from the back of the vehicle, and you need the result to suspend the hammock a practical distance from the ground.

Once done with that, you have tarp considerations. It's an interesting challenge for those so inclined.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

my son is currently taking welding in trade school

I had him attempt to duplicate this build, exactly from this very video

it's hot garbage, and it's not going to hold much more than 100 lbs, and I'm not sure I'd trust it with that much
