Hi all!
I’ve been lurking around this site for a couple years now after deciding I was tired of restless sleeping on the ground. It took a while to make the leap, but now I’m officially a hammocker and not looking back.
I’m a bit of an ultralight guy, so adding weight to my setup held me back, but after taking a week-long trip in the hammock, it was well worth the extra weight. I’ve never slept better in the backcountry, and I’m sure it’ll only get better as I get more dialed in.
Many thanks to all of you whose posts have given me a real education, and a special thanks to Shug for all the great videos. His videos were what pushed me to give this a real go. It’s been a fun start to the journey.
My first setup:
Dream Hammock Darien in 1.2 MTN - great, reasonably light setup. Like it a lot.
Hammock Gear Burrow 20 underquilt - not sure what to make of it as I have no comparisons. I’m intrigued by a Wooki though, as I don’t love the restrictive feeling of shock cord.
Hammock Gear Burrow 20 top quilt - been using this for years on the ground. Been into the teens with it and always kept me warm. May need to replace soon as it’s leaked a lot of down over the years.
Hammock Gear DCF tarp with doors - light and wonderful. Can’t imagine it getting any better than this tarp.
Looking forward to many years of hanging in the woods!
