It wasn't until this year. I guess it was just easier for them to do it this way. I still prefer the old way of exchanging the old suspension or continuous loop completely with the buckle suspension. But since the attached loop got shorter, it's now necessary to swap that out for a longer loop, if you want to do it that way.

What kind of tree strap was that? A normal polyester one?

I have actually had less problems with the Beetle Buckles than with any other buckles, because their slots are narrow and the straps have a harder time twisting.

I found with my Sparrow that slipping was not the cinch buckles, but the tree straps. I was using cheap smooth nylon/polyester straps that the buckles couldn't "bite" into. When I switched to the courser webbing style they did not slip.

I bought some beetle buckles last year and have been using them pretty regularly since then without any issues. After reading about this though I'll be curious to see how the Amstell loops hold up. So far no problems that I've encountered.

The 1" black polyester that Dream Hammock sells. I'd carefully positioned the Dutch clip when setting up my hammock, but at some point when I was fussing with the hang, the strap must have slide over the pointy bit.

Another option: the buckles from Superior. Combination of the features of Beetle Buckles and the WB buckle.

I use and like the Beetle Buckles. Mostly people have not had many problems with Dutch's hardware. Occasionally it seems that some folks have had to smooth some rough edges on certain bits and pieces but I wouldn't let that be a show stopper.

FWIW, the only downside to the WB buckle (IMO) is that it means leaving your straps attached to the hammock or having to un-thread and then rethread the straps every time you hang. I like the ability to easily detach the straps from the hammock...

yeah, i prefer the WB buckle but this year i learned to make my own continuous loops and dogbones, so now i'm running a WB buckle on my CL on my sparrow.

...which by the way, i have been sleeping in at home for ten (?) months. very deluxe.
