My first hammock was a Chillax (double) that I spotted at Costco. I took it backpacking, suspecting that it would solve my cold feet issues. It did (with an underquilt), however I felt it could be lighter.
I then got a Eno sub6, which is significantly lighter, but the rumors are that it's delicate, and, while I haven't had any trouble, it does look possible.
However, they both got me thinking about how one might build a lighter hammock without being more delicate. It seems that there's a lot of material at the gathered ends that isn't doing anything. If one could make something more like a woven hammock, with thin, light thread, that theoretically should meet both criteria.
Has anyone seen such a thing, or woven your own? I'm curious if the thread one might use would be so thick as to make the hammock just as heavy, or if a tug on a thread would tangle it.
cheers
