    Virginia Capitol Trail

I am planning on biking the Virginia Capitol trail next week. I was looking at hammocking at Lawrence Lewis Park primitive campgrounds.

Has anyone hammocked there or camped there? If so which of the three sites is best for it?

    TIA

First I've heard. It looks like they just recently created these sites. Fantastic!
I did a little digging and found a photos for

    Site #2: https://www.virginiacapitaltrail.org...-lewis-jr-park

    and

    Site #3: https://www.riversideoutfitters.com/...lewis-jr-park/

Looks like plenty of trees to me. If Site #1 is at all similar, you shouldn't have any problems finding a place to hang at any of them.
I recommend that you contact Charles City County Parks and Recreation in advance to see if they have any hammock prohibitions or constraints at Lewis Park. Since they are so new at this campground thing, you may need to be patient and prepared to educate them a bit. The Virginia Capitol Trail Foundation could serve as an advocate if needed.

I checked with the county parks they had no restrictions on hammocks. But the person answering the phone didn’t know if I could hang with the trees the way they are.
I was hoping for personal information on the campsite. The photos are only at campsite two and three that they have.

Honestly, I was surprised to find any photos. The campsites are so new that there probably aren't a lot of folks who have used them yet. Although this is basically in my back yard, I wasn't even aware they they had opened these sites until your post. Thanks for that by the way! I was glad to learn about it.

I hope someone else pops on with personal experience. I am interested to hear what they say as well.

I did not know that they were this new. Thanks for your input. I may try and go down next week.

Yep. Just opened last August looks like.

    Only a year old.

You piqued my interest so I did some searching. Not a lot of places to hang in this part of Virginia.

I meant to follow up with you, Crash. Did you ever get the chance to get down to check out these sites? Any feedback you can share?
I haven't had the chance to get there this fall (headed mostly to points West instead), but was thinking about maybe trekking that way early in the new year. Don't want to waste my time though if the sites are no good.

I ended up going to Grand Junction Colorado and doing some rides out there. Colorado National Monument & Grand Mesa are fantastic for bicycling. Road biking and mtn. biking out there is nothing like I’ve ever done. Virginia is on the back burners for awhile.
