This, along with a ridgeline organizer and a red continuous loop at the head end. Also ditched the thick shock cord that attaches to the tie outs. Replaced them both with a Ringworm on a 6' piece of cord. Clip the Ringworm in when I want the net/shelf pulled out, detach it when I'm coming and going.

I've had Blackbirds for about 10 years. Just get the strap angles right and then use the ridgeline to hang the essentials.

Yes, the ridgeline is quite useful. I always hang my glasses there so they don't get scratched or lost. And I try to keep the shelf with only a handful of items -- flashlight, knife, bear spray, maybe a Kindle if have done a bit of reading.

I also swapped out the stock continuous loops that came with the XLC and spliced some universal loops to use with a Becket suspension.

I made my own using some leftover weed block material I had in my shed and some grosgrain for the edges. The weed block is light and maintains its shape better than noseeum or nylon.
~ All I want is affordable, simple, ultralight luxury. That’s not asking too much is it?
