    DIY tarp flies

Dutch's tarp flies look cool in that they seem SUPER easy to setup.

    ... but they're a bit pricey!

I don't mind paying for things but honestly I know I'm going to lose these :-P

Are there any DIY hacks here? (other than knots)

I prussik baby S-biners onto my SLS. Could just as easily use toggles or whatever (I'm lazy). Allows for one piece of cordage for hammock suspension and tarp. Maybe a little bit heavier (difference between amsteel and whatever else for the given length) but less fuss IMO and pulls my tarp tight when I get into my hammock (the only time I REALLY care that my tarp is taut).

Lots of great ways to solve this problem. Been kicking around moving s-biners from top rope to the line from hammock to descender ring on tree (same rope just moving to different position) to see if having the tarp lower is much advantage or if it will sag too much when I get in the hammock.

How can you lose them? They're usually spliced.

One word about the Flyz: I have a couple I bought on here, and I love them. They work really great. And you're right those things are smaller than they look in the pictures and potentially easy to lose. Mine are always on a line before I leave the house, so I don't worry about it.

The one issue I have is the size of the holes, they're pretty tight for 1.75mm Zingit-diameter cord if you have any kind of melt or spliced end. As in, it's definitely not a quick thing to just switch them from one line to the next. If the holes were a half MM bigger I'd love them. If you use smaller cord for guylines, it won't be an issue though.

I bought a packet of knock-off loop aliens and I use them on my continuous ridgeline for my tarp. I use this line lock method for one end of the ridgeline:

Then on the other end, I use this tensioning method as I can put the hardware where I need it on the line and then tension the line to the tree.

This could be an alternate for the Dutchware Tarp Flyz

When not in use, I clip the knock-off loops together with a small biner and clip it to my coiled ridgeline. Ready for the next outing.
