Question Light quilt...paralysis from analysis...which one!?!

    Hey,
This is another decision I've been going back and forth over. Light quilt. There are way too many and I'm running out of time. I did get down to 2 options. Partly cuz I'm sick of being pulled around by Amazon suggestions. The more I look, the more new options I find. 🤦

    Get Out Gear https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08C7...AB7S40D7&psc=1

    Horizon Hound https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B079T...78KDOT7R&psc=1

They are lightweight, solid options. I think. Gonna do a PLUQ for underquilt. I don't think the temps will go below 50.

Opinions on these options? I know there are things lighter or warmer or whatever. Unless you know of a solid option that costs less, what might weight one option over the other? I love the color of the GOG, but the other one is just an ok color, just color isn't always the best way to make these choices. I love what some of the reviews say about the Horizon Hound. So here I am, looking for advice from the more experienced. 😊

    Thanks!

I have no experience with either of those, but I have a Lazy Bear blanket from (I think) Big Blue Mountain? It was a prime day deal a couple years back for $35-40. The Horizon Hound one looks identical to what I have. It's remarkably warm for sitting around camp or at home (I used it to keep my legs and feet warm all winter in my home office). I don't think any of them have actual down, or at least not 100% down (probably down mixed with some synthetic).

If you were to convert one to an UQ, I would suggest adding an UQP to your setup. With sewn-through construction, they won't work great when the wind blows. At that point, the cost is approaching what you'd pay for an SLD TW (in the 40 degree range), and it will be lighter and probably warmer.

If you are doing a PLUQ why not just sew in a footbox and make a TQ too?

2 PL weighs more than 1 plus one of these quilts. Then there is the matter of not wanting everything to be camo. I'm neither military, nor hunter, so I'd rather leave camo to them. The coyote color PL I've found cost more money and the nonmilitary ones seem to weigh more.

It's Amazon...get both, figure out which one you like better and return the other.

Check the return policy for each. It can vary, even for similar items.

The 2 quilts I'm looking at are both 80% down 20% feather. I wasn't planning on using either to form an UQ.

Honestly, you could probably flip a coin between them. I'd bet either one will be good to about 50-60 degrees on its own, assuming no wind. Of you got both, you could layer them and maybe get down to 20-30.

I would suggest getting a KAM snap kit to form a foot box. Keeping a flat blanket tucked around you could be tricky unless you're a really still sleeper. My wife tells me I dance better in my sleep than I do awake, so tucking is pretty useless for me.

Well then. The Horizon Hound specifies RDS down and they make it a selling point, whereas the other only vaguely mentions responsible sourcing in answer to someone's question. And it has hanging loops which the pretty blanket does not. Wish the pretty one also said RDS. C'est le vie.
