Seems to me that a tarp would give some warning that it's best years are over.... leaks, holes, small tears might give it away. Or, a big wind might rip it to shreds in seconds, who knows!
I'm more concerned about aging of the fabric in my hammock! I don't want Thumper, Butt Hangs Low, or Drops Like Rock for a trail name.

Makes me feel a bit better about owning as many tarps as I do too. I only have three but I spent money on nice Warbonnet stuff that I hoped would last me 10+ years.
Makes sense if I think about it. I have tents that have lasted 15 years or so before they really start to fall apart.
