    DCF Hammocks, anyone using?

Anyone using a Dyneema hammock? I’m interested more for the low stretch than the weight savings. I use a 7’ ripstop hammock w/ peapod insulation which I’m generally happy with except the high stretch of the nylon causes some shoulder compression. Recently saw a Wilderness Innovations video of their short beta-test DCF hammock/poncho/tarp and while I don’t the multiple purpose aspect, liked the way the the sides do not compress at all. The only other reference I find is on BPLight in 2010 which reported and discussed a beta DCF hammock failure. It’s been 12 years since that thread, any one doing it?

DCF is not a breathable material and may cause condensation. Would act as a vapor barrier.
There is a multitude of fabrics available today for hammocks that are softer, firmer, lighter, heavier and on and on.
Maybe try a different breathable fabris or perhaps give a double layer hammock a go for more support while still breathable and reduce that shoulder squeeze.

I recommend you take a peek at this website. The link I have should start you in their Polyester fabric s. Polyester is a very low stretch fabric that is lighter in weight and quite strong.

Just as Shug has indicated, DCF is not breathable and will likely cause you issues in the long run. I made a double layer hammock when I first started out of 1.9 PU coated rip stop - super strong, didn't stretch, but....... didn't breathe. Woke up one fall morning in almost a puddle of moisture in the bottom of my hammock. Not a fun experience. Almost felt like you peed yourself

If you still have questions reach out to customer support through RipStop by the roll they are fantastic.

I remember someone bragging once about a titanium and composite dyneema portaledge. With and impermeable fabric something like that is the only real world application that won't have you growing mushrooms.

Different construction for different intended use than a bridge hammock. People do hang them off trees and I don't know why. Ridiculous.

You won't find much on Hammockforums about DCF hammocks. A few people tried it and converted them to stuff sacks.

Okay, so let me try a different tack. What material would be best for a shirt, lightweight, low stretch hammock? Gilligan suggests I look at polyester, any other suggestions. Shug’s video is interesting as always but not long on specifics.

*****Read up on this chart for specifics as to weight rating, stretch, feel, breathability, friction and durability......Way more Specifics~~~...https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/02..._chart.pdf?630

More specifics on fabrics here https://ripstopbytheroll.com/collections/hammock-fabric

Maybe a 1.9 will be less stretch for you....https://ripstopbytheroll.com/collect...nt=11169982785

Or a double layer 1.1. would be low stretch.

Perhaps the 1.7 MTN XL Hybrid would suit you. https://ripstopbytheroll.com/collect...nt=28519708557

I've made one hammock from polyester and will confirm that it's very low stretch. I'd say NO stretch, but that's probably not strictly true. Since I like a certain amount of stretch in my hammock, I didn't like the polyester but it's a personal preference. The MTN line from RSBTR probably has less stretch than other nylon fabrics, especially in the 1.7 weight. My go to hammock is made from MTN 1.2 or 1.3 (can't remember which) and has minimal stretch compared to, say, regular old 1.1 ripstop.

Thanks, MTN 1.2 sounds good and seems like a commonly used hammock fabric. I’ll give it a DIY try.
