Trip Planning and or I can hang there

The Terminator and I are planning on attending the Lighthouse Hang in Sept. We plan to make a road trip out of it and travel thru some places we have never been to before or in my case have not been to in a long time ( 60+ years, yea I was a little kid then ). Hope to camp out along the way.

So my question is are there any restrictions on hanging in the state parks in I need to worry about ?

I've stayed at a couple NH state park campgrounds and haven't noticed any restrictions. But it would probably be best to call and check if you know where you are planning on staying. (Probably the same for NY and VT)

    Here's NH's info

NY State is pretty relaxed - just go on the state website to find the campsites. First come, first served so don't plan on showing up on a Friday with any hope of finding a campsite.

I've camped along the AT in Connecticut and they generally don't allow campfires. However, there are no reservations so it's, again, first come, first served.

They aren’t going to let you hang at the regular campgrounds in CT state parks even if you could find the trees. There is variation in enforcement between parks but it isn’t that predictable. But also some trees fell in a state park campground during a storm a couple years ago and hurt some campers so it looks like they stepped up tree cutting as many of the few mature trees in the campsites have now been cut down.

Depends on the park. I've been to NY State Parks that strictly enforce nothing tied to trees not even a clothes line. Then at Allegheny State Park they advertising a class on how to hammock.

I see that one of NYS rules is NO nails into trees. Here is the rule from the website:
Things you should know when you get there...
    1. Please do not injure the trees. No nails, screws, ropes or lines are permitted to be tied or inserted into trees, shrubs or other structures.

How do you tie a rope into a tree????

Here is the 2021 camping brochure, in the catskill region section it has a picture and caption of "sleeping in a hammock":
    https://read.nxtbook.com/nysparks/ca...ny_region.html
So I suppose they can enforce it either way, bring a copy of the brochure and show it to anyone who asks you to take it down.

I think parks people don’t know enough about hammocks to make cogent rules, and/ or somebody, once, somewhere nailed their hammock to a tree.

I camp at a county park with a “nothing on the trees” rule. Designated campsite with cleared away pad for cooking, which means I have to walk a few yards into the woods to hang. This past spring I had an interaction with a ranger who shined his 100 million lumen light at my rig. I got out of the hammock to say hello. From his position on the pad, he thought I was tarping. He bid me a goodnight.

    Be discrete. Be polite.

It also depends on you who talk to at the park, the civilian staff or the park rangers. At one state park in NC we were told by the civilian staff that we had to hang our hammocks over the tent pads. When we asked the park ranger, the ranger said we did not have to hang over the tent pad.
