What to do when your hammock has that not-so fresh feeling?

I understand they're outdoor gear and are expected to have an outdoorsy smell, but after a week of really warm sleeping at scout camp, my Trail Lair smells pretty gamey. It's Hexon 1.6. Is it safe to use Febreeze or some other odor remover/neutralizer on that fabric?

I think the worst that would do is stain. You could test a small area.

But then it's just going to smell like an old lady with too much perfume. Could attract mosquitoes too.

I confirm that Defunkify and maybe other similar enzyme-based detergents are great at deodorizing stuff with human stank on it.

I would just wash it. Mild detergent. In the tub, sink or washer on gentle.

I wash mine on gentle. I try to wash them all, or at least three or four, at one time.

Thanks for the feedback. I've got it airing out now. If the funk remains, I'll try washing it. I assume if machine washing, I should remove the CLs and ridgeline?

I do. It lets the fabric open up completely, and lets the cleaning process get in all the nooks and crannies.

I wouldn't remove anything. Toss in a bucket with some hot water and Dawn, squish it around, rinse and hang to dry. No rocket surgery involved!

Yeah, just wash it in the tub.

You could also just hose it off on the driveway or deck and ... hang dry

cmoulder probably puts that bucket with a tight lid in the bed of his pickup and drives 30 miles on rough roads - let the truck do the agitation.
