    The drawings Gilligan posted are exactly what I was saying earlier -- draw out your final shape on the fabric, then add hem allowance, and fold down to your line for sewing. I'm glad you are finally 'seeing' this!

    Doing it this way, you do not need to calculate anything, so no need for a panel calculator. Doesn't matter whether it's isosceles, equilateral, right angle -- in fact it doesn't matter WHAT the shape is, drawing your final shape and sewing your hem to that will work.

    I'm glad the mystery was solved! Whatever hem allowance you want (for any shape) needs to be measured out perpendicularly from your intended finished edges, not added to the length of the sides.

    It's nice to have the sounding board here ... i got turned around and was trying to work out what the initial panel size had to be to get the size i wanted after hemming. turns out that was a bit of a rabbit hole. Just using your final size and hemming allowance is the easiest way .... fortunately I broke out of the loop before my head exploded.
