Hey Forums,
Been thinking about joining for a while. Finally bought a hammock and want to get up off the ground. Not enough trees out back, so looks like my first step is building a turtle dog stand.
Have a good one!

New from Central IL 2
I have always wanted to hammock camp. Joining a group paddling the Current river in Missouri soon gave me the push. They are all hanging and I need to be to!
Happy travels everyone. Thank you for all of the great information.
Hey man! Welcome!
I've done my share of hanging around Illinois. The best spots I have found so far are the Shawnee National Forest in So. IL and Forest Glen Preserve in eastern central IL (both a good drive from Peoria). Otherwise I get out to the Ice Age Trail in WI or the Huron-Manistee National Forest in MI. Not much camping near Chicago (where I live) so I'm always planning to drive far for my trips lol. My point with all of this, I can vouch for your need for a stand. If you're looking to compare types of stands to build, check out making a tensahedron stand too. If I were gonna build a stand (and I probably will soon) that's the type I would do. But both work great! Good luck with your build!
Hi there everyone, fellow central Illinoisian here. I travel to Sand Ridge State Park or Weldon Springs State Park mostly. They each have their pluses and minuses. I have never been to Forest Glen, but I have been to Shawnee which is amazing not mention there are some great lakes down there too.
I hope to hear from you all soon and maybe we can get together sometime to camp, it is always much more fun with company.
