I just got back from a short 3 night camping trip with a totally new hammock camper - my wife. Decided to keep it short the first trip and see how things went.
We spent each night at a different spot with a bit of hiking (not too much) between - just enough to get used to setting up and breaking down camp.
The first night we spent at a place that I had camped before - beautiful view, easy to camp there. We did have 20 mph winds though-out the night, but the cavernous SuperFly kept us warm and dry. This tarp impressed me immensely on the trip, so big that we had no trouble pitching and covering 2 hammocks. I've always liked it, but this ability gave me a new respect for how it seems bigger than it is.
amazing view
sweet tarp
We headed inland for the next night - about 2-3 miles from the coast and camped at another designated campsite. It was a bit tough as there were few ideal trees available, but we found one that we thought would work and it turned out to be great. The rain started after it got dark and just sort of sprinkled all night. Never coming down hard, but enough to soak the area. She was impressed that we were 100% dry, not even damp.
In fact, the hammock reports coming in from my wife were all positive! She slept 10 solid hours on the first night and close to that on the second. She couldn't believe how well she rested she felt in the morning. Also she gave kudos to the wonderful SuperFly saying that all that roof over her made her feel secure. Basically, she has claimed ownership to the Hammock Gear rig and the Simply Light Design Underquilt as hers! .
They get a lot of rain (and moss) here. I think this is actually lichen however.
I highly recommend this little German table by the way. I saw it in one of Shug's videos and this thing is the real deal. I can't imagine not having it now. Table, kitchen, drying rack, storage area - does it all anywhere.
The last night we headed for the coast, one of my favorite places to camp and it did not disappoint.
Once again, the amazing SuperDuperFly and a happy camper.
We saw eagles - 3 or 4 continually circle the area and squabble with each other.
and bears - this little guy was a good reminded to store that food away from camp.
On the drive back home we stopped for a great meal and then were treated to this nice sunset on the ferry. All in all a great trip and my wife is already talking about doing another in a few weeks.
