Hardware (tiny cord end cap) question

The teeny tiny shock cord end caps (for example, as used for the end of the small shock cord on the perimeter of a netless peak shelf), can they be removed/reinstalled? I have a peak shelf that came with alligator clips that I want to remove.

My experience with removing and replacing end caps is that it's likely you'll damage them opening them up. Hence, I just buy new ones if I'm going to replace them.

I mean, they're not required, but it would be great if I could remove and reuse them. I'm cheap.

    According to the linked info:

Will accommodate up to 1/8inch shock cord or 2.2mm rope

you could possibly cut them flush, then hollow the old cord out with a small blade and glue the new cord back in.
There's also these which says it accepts shock cord up to 1/16" :

I guess that's what they are, I'm just not seeing any way to get the apart. Maybe some persuasion with a pair of pliers will do it.

    Very elegant and haute couture.

Another simple solution is marine grade adhesive heat shrink. Butane lighter flame applied to cut end, and slip the adhesive heat shrink to desired length. Heat with butane lighter. Experiment with spare cordage to discover desired look. Colors are available. Marine grade uses superior adhesives and a more robust heat shrink material.

As it turns out, they do come apart with a gentle squeeze from some needle nose pliers. That tiny cap goes flying, though! Thankfully the first one landed on an open part of my gray laminate floor, so it was easy to spot; I wrapped a cloth around the second one before popping it apart. Now that I know they exist and are reusable, I'll need to include a mess of these in my next order.
