This thread is timely, because I was just thinking about a backyard DIY tensahedron stand made from EMT. Would it be a bad idea to be in one of those during a storm?
It would not be any more dangerous than hanging from a couple of tree in your yard. The stand isn’t very tall, and lightning is more likely to strike a tall, non-metal object than your low metal stand.

Except EMT is conductive. So if the lightning strikes a nearby tall object like a tree house and then travels though to the immediate ground area, it will also seek conductive paths through the ground like fencing, power lines, phone lines or plumbing.
