Looking to have a 1.5 day hike while driving through the UP in early August. Looking for the following, but will probably have to negotiate on some of it:
- Wooded
- 10-15 miles
- Loop (vs there and back)
- Dispersed camping
- Water available somewhere along the route
- Allows dogs
- Low traffic (e.g. no Manistee or Jordan trails)
- U.P., but perhaps upper lower peninsula...
Best I've come up with so far is the McCormick wilderness tract, but is a there & back and only 7ish miles. We could always base camp and do a bit more without the packs though. I've already done it, but my wife hasn't yet.
Anyone have any other good ideas?
