Stealth Camp in the Uinta Mountains, Utah

I had to make a quick trip from the Salt Lake City area to Wyoming, and decided to take the motorcycle and make a little overnight trip of it. I packed everything on the bike, then after work I zipped up to one of my favorite places, Highway 150, also known as the Mirror Lake Highway. There is a recreation fee for the area, but the established campgrounds are an extra nightly fee on top of that. Boondocking is allowed, but those spots are not exactly street bike friendly.

I ended up parking at the Highline trailhead. GREAT trail for backpacking if you ever are in the area. Camping at trailheads is generally not allowed, and with a crappy hip and 30 pounds of gear with me, I wasn't going to hike much. I hiked about 120 yards into the brush off the trailhead, and found a nice little spot to setup. Kind of in a small land depression, so it was shielded from the parking area, the main road, and the trail. No campfire, and just used fancy feast stove to heat water for coffee in the morning. I even had a small little patch of snow that chilled my beer.

    Campsite view:

View of Butterfly Lake from the top of the hill, across the main road:

Not a great picture, but I tried using my new winter top cover for the Eldorado. Bushwack Shadow Pine Camo :-) Beer chilling patch of snow in the background.

This ended up being a great little out-of-the-way spot for those times I just need a 1-nighter.
