Hello there.
My name is Charlie, I’m 40 winters old and live in Stockholm Sweden.
My first hammock trip was in 2014, with a snugpak jungle hammock, had it for some years and loved hanging around.
Now I have a simple hammock, no brand, no bug net, simple suspension and that’s all because my first hammock decided it had enough with me… may he hang in piece!
Tried making my own under quilt, but it failed, so I’ve mostly used a pad. The reason the DIY UC failed you ask? well let me tell you.
I found an insulation material that was very thin and claimed to keep one warm, It was meant for jackets, but my brain convinced me otherwise. Long story short, not enough loft to sustain the heat!
Just putting a wool blanket under me probably would have been warmer.
I also got two tents, because I love hiking in the mountains of Sweden, above the tree line, so can not use my hammock as intended there.
Love my tents! They’re great and I wish I could get some of my tent features into hammocks… maybe, maybe I should try someday? Just need to figure out how to become smart and crafty…
I’ve had an Amok Draumr, for a short while, but sold it.
I like to sleep on my side and belly, plus I already had pads, so win win right?
But unfortunately it was a bit short for me, this was before the XL was around.
Also missed laying on my side in the hammock and easily reaching stuff from underneath.
Cooking while in the Draumr wasn’t as easy as in an ordinary gathered end hammock. Sitting on the edge, with your feet on the ground and your stove right there, using the hammock as a chair when cooking, bliss! You could do it in the Amok, but just not as easy.
Another thing I found easier and more comfortable was getting in and out of a regular hammock, no matter from sleeping or sitting in it.
Also the balance was a bit of an issue, due to me moving around in my sleep.
Yes I hear some of you say, “but the Draumr has recliner mode, that’s very comfy and nice”.
It does and it’s really nice, don’t get me wrong, I did appreciate the Draumr and almost ordered a new 5.0 XL version a few days ago… almost.
I really wanted to get something new, something different and I found the Opeongo Arial A1, really cool… but it will be to short for me, so I kept searching.
Thus after looking around, not finding anything interesting, I almost bought the new Draumr, I have also been looking at the warbonnet blackbird XLC for some time, but then I’d have to get so many new things and could not afford it all at once.
But good news! I’ve just ordered the Haven tent!
It came around out of nowhere and they have an XL version!
I’m really curious and have high hopes, because it ticks a lot of boxes for me.
As soon as I’ve been out sleeping in it and hanging around a bit, I’ll make a new post with some pictures and share some thoughts.
So, yeah, I like camping, in hammocks and tents. Just hiking around, find a nice spot, cook some food, brew some coffee and whittle stuff or read a book. The outdoors are great!!
I have some great friends who share this hobby with me and I’m very thankful for that.
Thanks for dropping by, I wish you all the best, take care now and have a great day! Charlie.
