Best way to mount a tarp *high* up so that it blocks the sun but still allows for a breeze?

What's the best way to mount a tarp *high* up so that it blocks the sun but still allows for a breeze?

I'm trying to REALLY nail my hammock setup and sleep out side like 80% of the time. It's really helping me sleep well.

The main problem is that if I want to spend time in the hammock during the day it will get too hot - and I don't have a view.

I need a setup where I have the ability to mount the tarp high and then convert it to a less exposed position at night when I sleep.

Another option (for when it's not raining) is to have a hammock sock and leave the tarp up high all the time and just pull the hammock sock over when I go to sleep to keep in some of the heat.

    Would love your thoughts here.

I'll post and update once I get my setup really dialed in...

Maybe get a ladder, hang tarp at desired height
Use internal pole mods to spread tarp for more coverage
Stake down tarp guylines almost directly below each pole and pole mod. Maybe a bit out away from tarp’s footprint

If this high pitch, is too high to protect from rain, lower tarp ridgeline until it works for you. If your tarp is extra wide and has good internal pole mods and flexible fiberglass poles, you can pitch your tarp 6 or 7 feet high, and adjust internal poles to spread tarp wider-higher during days and bring sides down lower at night by adjusting length of tarp side guylines—longer or shorter

I would not sleep in hammock with a hammock sock——too hot for me

    Good luck

    Two tarps?

I expect Nanok to pop in before too long. He has some good ideas about this.

    Porch mode.

With a CRL having the tarp connection as short as possible makes the most out of the height you have.

If you have a long hang, long prussics pulled out to lift tarp. Slide to center and tighten guylines to lower.

@rmcrow2. That's sort of what I was thinking of. Another idea I had was to use two short guy lines attached to the tree, at lower levels, then I can convert it to a lower mode RIGHT before I go to sleep.

Interesting comment about a hammock sock being TOO hot. I'm often sleeping at higher altitude and if I'm going to do this the entire year then this will become an issue.

Great thing about tarps is it is easy to raise and lower. A quick re-pitch before sleep is something I often do.
