HG 20 degree has more down then my 0 degree top quilt

My son received his 20 degree. We are happy with it. However, we noticed right away that his 20 degree bag has much more down and loft than my 0 degree bag.

This is obvious in a side by side comparison of the quilts layed out and both of them compressed in their stuff sacks. He did order 2 ounces of over stuff, but I don't understand how his 20 degree would have more fill and loft than my 0 degree quilt. I will try to post some pic later.

Any ideas? I just don't understand this.

Do both quilts use the same fill power down?

Yes both are the ECO burrows. Should be the same fill power.20210610_090554.jpg

20 degree on left and 0 degree on the right.

You should weigh both quilts and compare to the specifications on HG's website. If the 0° UQ is way under spec, then it's very likely they made a mistake and didn't add enough down to it- which I'm sure HG will work to make right.

Judging from that picture, the 0° does look under-filled. Another possibility is that it was mis-labeled. That looks more like a 30° or 40° quilt to me. At any rate, you should contact HG directly and let them sort everything out.

You should really give them a real live phone call to get a for sure answer and not a bunch of speculation.

What Shug said. Give them a call. They've been super helpful when I had a similar issue, and guided me through weighting the items to determine if it was just a mislabel or something else. In the end they resolved my issue better than I would have expected.

It is worth noting that down loses some loft after being used and that a good proper cleaning can restore maximum fluffiness.

However, it is also true that over the years some quilt makers (especially cottage companies) have started adding more down to bring their temp ratings up to "comfort," vs "survival," which used to be the rating standard. I know that Enlightened Equipment did this because I have several of their quilts and those made in the last couple of years definitely have more fill. So if your quilt is a few years older this might be the case.

A 0 deg should have taller baffles. An overstuffed 20 deg would probably look "as puffy" as a zero in my opinion, it would have more- or likely close to the same, down in a smaller baffle.

On top of all of this, does the 0 keep you warm at temps close to that? If so its working as intended right?
