Struggling with ripstopbytheroll underquilt kit. Grosgrain and shock cord placement

I am really struggling figuring out how I am supposed to sew the grosgrain to the underquilt and how to run the shock cord. They don’t have any videos and the instructions are not very clear. Am I supposed to fold the grosgrain over itself? Does anyone have a good video for this?

If you mean the edge binding bit, then yes you fold the grossgrain over the edge of the quilt. Leaving enough room to run shock cord trough.

Picture : yellow is fabric, purple grossgrain, blue stitch.

But I don't have any experience with the kit. Just my 2c on the discription

I just don't understand what the "close up" picture is for..

Yeah I thought the closeup was of the clip but I think it’s an X-ray view of the grosgrain going across

I found it easier to run the shock through the grosgrain before sewing. Then again, my underquilt was one of my first projects, and I wasn't so great at sewing straight and consistent back then.

It may be easier to sew one side and then fold it over and sew the other side. A zipper foot may also be useful.

That would have been a good idea . I used a 20 degree synthetic because I do a lot of camping in the early spring/fall and that stuff is thiiiiiick so it was a struggle getting it attached and even. I ended up pinning the grosgrain in half with the quilt out of it and the shock cord inside and then just lining it up on the quilt as I fed it through 4” at a time. So took about 30 min on each side.

interesting project considering I hadn’t sewn anything since I was in middle school.

I'm late to the party and see you've completed this part of your project, but for future reference folks can search for "how to thread elastic through casing" and find lots of videos that show how to run the shock cord through the channel. Cheers and kudos to you for taking on the project!
