    Hey from Philly!

Hey Everybody! I currently live in Philadelphia, but grew up in the SE. In high school and college I backpacked a lot, but over the years I gave it up. Have continued often to day-hike though. For the past few months, while toying with the idea of getting back into backpacking, I heard more and more about hammock camping and decided to give it a try. Even though I won't be coming back to a comfy bed after hiking all day, I'll be staying out and sleeping in a comfy hammock. Not sure my 64 yo body would like crawling around the dirt and sleeping in a bumpy tent. Been trying to educate myself by reading this forum, watching Shug videos, and reading Ultimate Hang 2. So much good info! I think I'm pretty much ready to buy my gear. I'm a big guy, 6'4" and 200 lbs, so have that to factor in while I select hammocks. Anyway, looking forward to participating in (mainly learning from) this forum, and hearing all of your good advise, and maybe even meeting some of you face-to-face in a hang!

    Greetings from Denton NC
You might want a gathered end hammock at least 11 feet by 5 feet
Even better, for you could be
11 feet long in a wide fabric anywhere from 66 inches wide and maybe an inch or two wider

Possibly you might like a longer hammock than 11 feet
Maybe 11 and a half feet long and 5 and a half feet wide.

Good luck, trails and trees are waiting for you!

Welcome from just north of Philly! There are some great group hangs throughout the year only a few hours drive from Philly.

Great that so many of you are from PA! NC too! Want to do more NE camping for sure. My father was from ENC and I used to live in WNC. Usually go down to WNC for a while each summer to hike and see friends.
