    Bugnet too short....what to do?

I made a new 11' hammock and I had bug netting that I was going to use for another hammock (shorter one). I wish I had a longer piece but I made it anyway. What do you guys think? Will this work? Should I keep it or get more material to make a new one? Or is there any way to fix it, make it work better?

Have fun, make a new bugnet and modify old bugnet.

You could always make yourself two cones with shock cord constricting the large end. From suspension to cover the gap.

I did the same thing (made a 10' hammock and bugnet). Then made an 11' hammock. I added some lightweight nylon to one end of the net so it fits. My bugnet has a drawstring on one end so I basically extended it and moved the drawstring.

That’s a good idea. I have a bug net from Hummingbird Hammocks that was a bit too short for one of my hammocks. I just cinched the drawstring where it was. It worked fine, but I wasn’t being attacked by hordes of bugs, either.

Look at the HUG net. You could cut your “too short’ net to work like a HUG - maybe have two. The HUG style assumes, because you are in the hammock, in a TQ, the lower part of you is already protected. So it’s just big enough to cover you head area (with a shock-cord lifting it off your face), down to middle torso-ish. There’s a keeper loop that goes under your hammock and the sides just tuck in. I carry the lightweight commercial version on day hikes when the “nap” hammock doesn’t have a net. And I might take it when the “bug season” has passed and I’m sleeping in a netless hammock. Because it just takes one ‘skeeter” to ruin a night’s sleep.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
