Use Chinook top cover/UQP configuration on a non-Warbonnet hammock?

Has anyone ever tried using a Chinook set-up (top cover zippered to underquilt protector so that the hammock floats freely within) with a non-Warbonnet hammock? I was lying in my XLC this past weekend thinking about whether that would work. You'd want a hammock the same length, but I wonder whether the different "heights" of ridgeline across different manufacturers would cause an issue. Dream hammock has a higher ridgeline than Warbonnet for example. If it did work though... you could effectively add a Warbonnet shelf to a non-Warbonnet hammock.

It would work if the non-Warbonnet hammock had about the same hammock body and ridgeline length. I measured my XLC with about 124" hammock body length from whipping to whipping, and about 110" ridgeline length. A longer ridgeline would damage the zippers. A longer hammock body with a ridgeline no longer than 110" would result in more sag. In the best case this would only mean more compression for your underquilt. In the worst case it would damage the zippers.

Yes, I found it a bit windy, but the view was pretty good.

In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Thanks, hutzelbein. That's a very helpful response. I hadn't thought about how the degree of sag would affect this.
