Wide hammock with bottom-entry bug net

So I had an odd realization while failing to find the sweet spot in my 12’ Dutch netless, while using a SLD bottom-entry bug net. When the net is off, I find that the best angle for the hammock uses its relatively wide width quite a bit. But when I try to get to that angle with the net on, my head hits the net, and I can’t really get far enough out to the side. I don’t really want my face pushed up against the net, or to stretch/tear the net. The angle I can get with the net on is not uncomfortable, but it’s frustrating knowing that the hammock has a sweet spot I can’t quite reach with the net on (not using a net is not really an option in my part of NC). What solutions have people found for this problem?

Was the bug net made for an 11 foot hammock, or a 12 foot hammock?
If the bug net was made for an 11 foot hammock, could it be possible that the bug net is too small for your 12 foot hammock?

My 12 foot hammock is matched with a bottom entry (Fronkey style) bug net. Bug net was made by Two Speed, specifically to fit a 12 foot hammock.

The net is from SLD, and it’s for a 12’ hammock. The ridgeline fits just fine, but it doesn’t seem to have the width to match the Dutch 12’ netless. I do find that the angle for the sweet spot for this hammock is a bit larger than on other hammocks I own, more like 20 or 30 than the usual 15. For a 15-degree angle, the net works fine.

If have someone take some pictures of you while you are in it and send them to Jared to see what he thinks. I feel that you should definitely be able to comfortably lay diagonally without feeling any pressure from the net or otherwise. I have an SLD net and it fits my 11 footer great. I find them more comfortable than built in nets since they do not pull the edges up.

So that was odd; I just went out to do that, with my son’s help, and this time I was able to swing out into the sweet spot with the net. The only difference from Friday would be my underquilt (and as it’s 96 out, I don’t much want to get a quilt saturated with sweat doing testing). I’ve included a pic of it hanging Friday night. I clearly need to keep thinking, and appreciate the benefit of more experienced eyes.

You could always try putting the UQ on the outside of the netting. I tried it once to see if it was much harder to get in and out of. It wasn't bad and I figured I would get the knack of it if I did it more often.

Go higher with your suspension on the tree and loosen the hang angle, which will loosen and sag the ridgeline which will also loosen the bug net and allow for a more diagonal lay. Or lengthen your ridgeline to allow for more sag in the ridgeline. This will take the tension out of the net a bit. It’s what I do with that same setup. You lose a bit of headspace in the hammock, but there’s already so much it’s not a problem.

Thanks for all of the suggestions; I will tinker with the sag angle the next time I’m using it.
