I have used double tripods constructed of the aluminum camo netting poles previously. Then I happened across a couple of the pipe stands similar to the OP pics for $5 apiece at a local building materials recycling center. I have one inside that I can slide around as my "couch" for watching computer vids, sleeping at night, or napping (as you get older you will appreciate that more ;-) ). The other is outside on the porch and for loading into the pickem up truck for truck camping if needed. I really like the portability for putting it where I want it simply by grabbing one end and shoving it into position.

Here's the link to the stand OneClick showed above.

Here is a link to the TurtleDog stand (though if you do a search on Hammock Forums for "Turtledog stand" using "Search Titles Only" you will find many many versions!

Those are the most popular DIY stands, except for the DIY Tensahedron stand which has become very popular! (again, many different threads discussing how to make one -- use Advanced Search and choose "Search Titles Only.")

Remember that you want to be safe and consider what is underneath you in case you fall -- the hammock stand you posted has a big beam beneath you, which would be extremely painful if you landed on it!

EDIT: here's the link to the biggest tensahedron stand thread [LINK]

Hard to beat. I used this all weekend. Laid around and did nothing, drinking beer in the hammock. It was hotter than hell, so I could move the stand to get into the best shade. All without taking anything apart or even removing the hammock. Just reach up and grab the pole like you're going to do a chin-up, walk around, set down.

The hammock stand that I have for a typical spread bar garden style hammock although long enough for my short hammock is not tall enough and I ended up being on the ground. For the type being I made a tensahedron stand from four 2x2x8 boards and some 550 paracord. Not a great picture, I've since played with it and can get the hammock at a better angle/lay. It's very comfortable and works well in my yard. I'm bringing it with my to the family lakeside camp this weekend. Should be perfect as there is no flat spots at camp.

Hopefully the price of wood will go down soon. Then I will look into make one of the 2x4 hammock stands to put on my deck.

Check out the DIY Tensahedron Stand thread. I build one for myself and one for my wife. They work impressively well and are relatively simple to build.
