    Hammock length for kid

I’m about to get started on hammock for a neighbor kid
He’s five or six or seven
Should I do regular 11 footer or shorten it a bit?
    I’m leaning towards a ten

Maybe get 11 foot hammock. In a few years, he will be taller than he is now.

At 5'9" a 10-foot is plenty for me. The 11' didn't make a noticeable difference, so when I made my own I did 10.5' just to split the difference.

It depends. If the hammock will be used often over the next few years, go with a 9 or 10. It will wear out before he needs a longer one. If the kid will not be using it often, or if you want to occasionally loan it out to adults, just go with the 11’.

Kids grow fast. But they also have a tendency to string hammocks tightly, forget to remove pocket knives & accessory clips before jumping in, and abuse the fabric in other ways. That is my experience anyway.

Personally, I don't believe in kid-sized hammocks. I'd go ahead and get an 11 footer.

My niece is just over 3 and loves lounging around in my 11 footer.

I’d recommend full length, in case you do have the one kid who doesn’t climb into a hammock with something sharp in her/his pocket, but I wouldn’t recommend something expensive. Kids really are hard on gear, and it takes the fun out of camping if we’re constantly reminding them what not to do. My kids both started out on Amazon-level hammocks, and have largely worn them out. As they get taller, I’ve loaned them some of my full-size hammocks, and recently bought both of them the Thruhiker ones that Dutch has on his site (hard price to beat).

My daughter switched from the tent with mom to a hammock about 5 yrs ago. She has used both 10x and 11' and although she's only 5'2" she likes the Deam Hammock Danger Bird best. Which if fine because I prefer the Blackbird. Love the shelf.

Definitely get at least the size of 10. High chance he's not the only one who will use it.
